Knee Instability
Instability, or the feeling of your knee giving way on you, is a symptom of a number of different possible problems with your knee. MCL, ACL, PCL or LCL ligament rupture, meniscal tear, patellofemoral maltracking, quadriceps weakness or femoral nerve compression are all possible causes of knee instability.
It is important to get your knee assessed in detail by an HPC registered Physiotherapist or a specialist consultant, to clarify the cause of your knee instability. If there is any sign of mechanical derangement in the knee, we can refer you on for an MRI scan and surgical opinion locally. If surgery is not required, or if you have just had surgery on the knee, we will help you to recover your normal function with a rehabilitation program incorporating strengthening and proprioceptive exercises.
