About Us

What is Physiotherapy?

A chartered physiotherapist has a recognised three or four year degree training, usually consolidated by a minimum of two years supervised clinical experience in an NHS hospital. All physiotherapists must be registered with the Health Professions Council. Physiotherapy is a well established profession, highly regarded by GPs, Sports Physicians and Orthopaedic surgeons.

Jon Blackburn qualified in 1996 with a first class honours degree in physiotherapy from the University of East London (Royal London Hospital). In 1997 his research on strength training for knee ligament reconstruction was published. Following three years of clinical work in a central London teaching hospital, Jon specialised in musculoskeletal & sports physiotherapy. In 2003 he became a member of the Chartered Physiotherapists in Orthopaedic Medicine having completed his Injection Therapy training (cortisone injections). Over the past 5 years Jon has combined working in private practice with his posts as clinical specialist physiotherapist in orthopaedic triage for a local NHS trust, and part time lecturer on the BSc(Hons) physiotherapy course at Southampton University. As his private practice commitments have increased over the past year, Jon is now focusing on developing the practice in his role as senior clinician.

Jon was a competitive swimmer and canoeist as a teenager. In his twenties he took part in cross-country mountain biking events and mountain-bike orienteering. He now competes on the local Triathlon circuit.

Veena Pai completed her BSc(Physiotherapy) in 1996, obtaining a clinical distinction. She has completed post graduate diplomas in Orthopaedic Medicine and Injection Therapy (Cortisone injections).

Veena has 12 years of clinical experience in the Musculoskeletal field. She was formerly the Superintendent physiotherapist of a local NHS outpatients department, but on her return to work after maternity leave, is now focusing on her private practice work.

Katie Dutson MCSP is an associate clinician to the practice. She provides home/domiciliary visits for those patients who are experiencing functional and mobility problems, often after being in hospital as an inpatient.
